MCS professionals evaluate each missionary candidate in the areas of calling, emotional well being, family functioning and adaptability for the proposed ministry. Candidate assessment includes the following:

Psychological Testing
Clinically proven tests provide objective, relevant information regarding personality as well as psychological and relational functioning. Tests include the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis (TJTA), Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2), and the Enrich marital assessment.

Clinical Interviews
Staff members conduct interviews lasting two to three hours to assess the candidate’s calling, family of origin issues, emotional well-being, level of psychological functioning, marriage, family, and work relationships.

Written Report
The MCS interviewer presents an extensive written report that includes highlights of testing results and a summary of the clinical interview. Reports are sent out within two weeks of the interview.

Verbal Report
The interviewer reports verbally on the same day as the interview to summarize the staff’s initial observations.

Specific Recommendations
After the interview, MCS gives the candidate specific recommendations, often including reading and exercises. These recommendations are included in the written and verbal reports.

Clinical Supervision
MCS provides professional supervision to ensure appropriate interpretation and application of the information gathered through candidate assessment.
